When looking for quality equipment and gear for the outdoors there is no shortage of brands to choose from. I give you my review here on the Patagonia Triolet jacket and pant combo and think you will consider gear that will last a lifetime.

Gear Review : Patagonia Triolet Jacket & Pants

Why buy two pieces of gear when one will do the work of both – Yves Chouinard owner/founder Patagonia

How Minimalism Guides your Choices

Over the last few years we have seen more and more people embrace the outdoors and being in wild places. This disconnected time out adventuring has allowed us to reflect on what we hold value to and the important things in our lives.

On a parellel path most in society who aren’t adventurers like myself are also realizing that we should own less stuff. A great goal but this doesn’t mean we shouldn’t buy anything. Alternatively to me it means we should focus on buying the highest quality product we can afford.

Your focus should be to stop buying inferior gear because it was cheap. Shift yourself to buy quality items from companies that have a reputation for performance and guarantee. Those companies should also be ones that are making ethical choices to shape our world’s future for the better.

I like the words shared by Joshua Becker at Becoming Minimalist ~ Remember, more is not better… better is better.

As well my friend Cait who is passionate about the Outdoors said ~

Why Do I Wear the Patagonia Triolet

If anyone asks my why I would wear a $400 jacket or $80 shirt I would just simply say it is because it’s the last one I’m going to have to buy.

I could create a big list of why for you but I won’t. I love the stories that brands share about themselves best. On Patagonia’s website they tell their story well and share a powerful Mission Statement .

Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis.

Then the next part of Patagonia is their Worn Wear campaign. This video is wonderful, I of course love it because of the adventure and climbing too. It supports the message from Patagonia to repair your products from them. They urge you to not buy new unnecessary gear. Learn more at their Worn Wear website.

One of the most responsible things we can do as a company is to make high-quality stuff that lasts for years and can be repaired, so you don’t have to buy more of it.

What I Wear : Patagonia Triolet Jacket and Pants

My most beloved and used piece of gear prior to this winter was my Nano-Air Hoody . That coat goes with me year round on all my trips. It is warm, functional, well crafted and most importantly comfy. I have always praised Patagonia and was planning to pick up my next piece of gear for the upcoming season.

Altitude Sports contacted me and we chatted back and forth some time over my plans for the next year. They watched all the time I had spent in the mountains from climbing to multi-day adventures and wanted to support me in 2017. We continued the conversation and I focused around the fact that I would only endorse brands that stood up to both my quality requirements but also the ethical integrity of that company.

We came to an agreement and I was able to happily receive my new Patagonia Triolet Gore-tex jacket and pants to add to my gear selection from their good selection of Patagonia from Altitude Sports .

To be transparent and honest with all of you my readers this review and endorsement of Patagonia is 100% genuine, I love the brand. I have received product in return for mentioning them and want to always be straight up with all of you.

Gear for the Pacific Northwest Elements & Patagonia Triolet

I call the PNW of Canada home. A place where Gore-tex is a staple and you need gear that you can use for any activity and in any conditions. The Triolet jacket and pants fit that requirement perfectly.  Heck Patagonia said it perfectly themselves even, it was almost like they made a coat perfectly for Vancouver Island.

Our jack-of-all-things-alpine, the Triolet Jacket leverages waterproof/breathable 3-layer GORE-TEX® fabric in a feature-rich shell to deliver versatile, durable performance in heavy snow, driving wind and rain.

I have proceeded to snowshoe to the summit of a mountain in blowing wind and bitter cold. Performance was perfect for winter winds and you can count on this alpine coat. The pants fit well and protect you from all the rough terrain you may encounter. Both are a nice slim fit and form with function is evident.

I have ventured into driving rains and hiked for hours with no concern that I would be wet underneath. Waterproof zippers keep all the elements out and the large hood keeps you dry right from the top to the bottom.

Sailing once in a rainstorm even one time sailing while wet snow fell upon us the jacket endured. I was confident and knowing that the wind and wet did not see this coat back down from the challenge.

On calm sunny days when a simple outer layer is needed will have this coat still acting as your go to choice. Lightweight and comfortable you can venture on any opportunity that presents itself and know you are prepared.

Get the Gear Get Outside

So far my experience with my coat and jacket has been positive. This pieces will remain in my collection for some time and expect many exciting trips with them. I hope to share many great photos of them in beautiful locations.

My hope is you consider brands like Patagonia and decide that this is the year I consider how I spend my money. It is the the year that I will get outdoors more and experience what is in our backyards.

If you live somewhere that you can’t easily access a well stocked knowledgeable outdoor store that carries top quality brands please consider Altitude Sports. They are a premier Canadian Outdoor Retailer and it would be a great way for you to help me say thanks to them for supporting. It allows me to continue to bring you great content from wild and remote places.

  • I love Patagonia. I read an article in Forbes about the founder and he said… why does it matter if I make $500 million or $200 million to do the right thing? I mean seriously, how much money does one person really need anyway?

Most companies say that they offer ‘work-life’ balance, but it is usually just fluff. But since Patagonia is run by someone who doesn’t conform to the 9-5 cubicle life, neither do his employees. When waves are good, everyone is allowed to go out and surf and then come back in and work. Because of this, he can get the best employees. Love it!

I wish more corporations would be like Patagonia.
