Centrally located on Vancouver Island the Alberni Valley is surrounded by tall mountains and endless rivers all flowing to the Alberni Inlet and out to the Pacific Ocean. Port Alberni waterfall day hike options are plentiful with this perfect combination of steep terrain flowing out to sea.

Three Port Alberni Waterfall Day Hikes to Check Out

#ExplorePortAlberni isn’t just a hashtag being used on social media but something I have been personally doing for the past 7 years. I love climbing Mount Arrowsmith, hiking Minna Ridge or the Alberni Inlet Trail. The one thing that I keep overlooking though is all the Port Alberni waterfall day hikes that there is to choose from. It truly is a hidden gem that is a jewel in the outdoor crown of the Alberni Valley. That is why when ZenSeekers reached out for me to write and photograph a story for them in partnership with Alberni Valley Tourism I jumped at the opportunity.

Read more about my day with ZenSeekers in my story; Feel The Rush Of Port Alberni Waterfalls and enjoy this wonderful zen video Tristan Hinder-Hohlweg of Old Growth Media created on our day in the Alberni Valley exploring waterfalls.

The Port Alberni Waterfall Must Do Hikes

Now onto the good stuff and the three Port Alberni waterfall day hikes to put on your list. I’ve linked to AllTrails to help you navigate to each fall while learning about the difficulty and what to expect for each hiking experience. Following each trail description is a gallery of my images from my time spent at each destination.

1. China Creek Falls

China Creek falls is located a short drive south of Port Alberni and is the longest hike of all the falls. Highlights are large cedar trees lined emerald green pools on China Creek as you hike to the waterfall. Then the falls themselves are stunning but offer amazing swimming in the deep pools during the hot summer.

2. Weiner Falls

Located west of Port Alberni, Weiner Falls is located just above Sproat Lake in the Alberni Valley Community Forest.

3. Stamp River Falls

Stamp River Falls is the most accessible of the three being located in Stamp River Provincial Park with added features of maintained trails as well as washroom facilities and camping. Must do during the Salmon Spawn that happens each year in the Alberni Valley.
